2011 Draft Grades – North Point Chitons

At long last, it’s time for part 9 of my 11-part series rating the 2011 draft. I’ve been occupied with lots of other stuff, and I haven’t had a chance to do one of these in a while. And so now I’m back to talk about the North Point Chitons.

And holy hell, did they have a bad draft. Only one inconsequential player remains on the squad.

North Point Chitons

North Point Chitons 2011 Draft
Round/Pick Player Pos Points With Team?
1.07 Shane Vereen RB 9.35 No
2.07 Jaiquawn Jarrett S 19.95 No
3.07 Nick Collins S 17.75 No
4.07 Sione Pouha DT 133.00 No
5.07 James Hall DE 107.75 No
6.07 Marvin Austin DT 0.00 No
7.07 Emmanuel Sanders WR 51.39 Yes

Studs

Only one player fits the bill here, and that’s DT Sione Pouha.  Drafted in the fourth round, Pouha replaced Ndamukong Suh in the Batavia Colliders’ starting lineup.  The Colliders picked him up for the league minimum and only signed him to a one year deal.

Misses

First round pick Shane Vereen didn’t play that much.  Now he’s on the Colliders as a league-minimum earning flyer.

The second round was way too early for a safety, but you could maybe justify it if the safety was in the top-3 in scoring.  Jaiquawn Jarrett was not.

Third round safety Nick Collins may never play football again.

Sixth round pick Marvin Austin was injured before the season began.  He could have been a nice IR-stash since he was only making $2, but the Chitons opted not to sign him.

Whatever

So DE James Hall is a decent value in the 5th round, but the Chitons didn’t use his services.  And the only player on the team, Emmanuel Sanders, is not really what you want in a WR, but he could make an impact someday, and he’s only a 7th round pick.

The Grade

The Chitons have been competitive in both of their seasons in the Immersion.  But I can’t see that continuing unless he becomes a much better judge of talent in the draft.  The Chitons, who only have one mediocre player to show for their entire draft, earn a fat F.

Sorry, there are no polls available at the moment.
