* THIS RULE HAS PASSED *
As the 2012 season approaches, I’d like to present out a series of rule change proposals as part of an effort to make our league even better. I’m completely open to debate or tweaking all of these proposals; my goal here is to get the ideas out so we can debate and get approved rules implemented before the new league year. With that preamble, on the proposals:
Rule: Implement a Trade Deadline
Rationale: Last year there was a trade near the start of the Immersion playoffs that rankled some of the owners – the infamous WR Steve Smith (CAR) to the championship-hopeful Marshfield Pirates for a 2012 3rd rounder to the out-of-the-running-and-now-defunct Biloxi Bulldozers.
Now, I’m in the camp that I should not be able to judge other another owner’s trades because I don’t know what their long-term plan is. That being said, the timing of the trade even made me uncomfortable.
Mechanism: 1) Let’s make the new deadline Week 8 – the same as the new NFL deadline. 2) Trades can resume immediately following the Immersion Championship.
Like I said, I’m open to the deadline being moved up or back or whatever, but I think something that keeps non-competitive teams from putting together sweetheart deals with playoff teams will keep everyone happy.
Sorry, there are no polls available at the moment.

First off, I know you all know this, but there was no collusion with the trade you used as an example. It took me a freaking month to get him to agree to that trade, mostly because he was holding out for a 2nd rounder.
That being said, I’m on board with a deadline, but week 8 just seems early. I know the NFL does it early and this league emulates the NFL quite a bit, but I dont know … maybe week 10? Maybe I’m picking nits here.
Thanks for this move, Knight…….
Don’t worry – Smith actually had an expiring contract, so he got you a round 3 that didn’t cost you anthing.
Now that this has passed, I want to remind people that I’m still good with Enright’s Week 10 deadline. The Week 8 number – which works for me, too – was just off the top of my head.
Well I certainly prefer the Week 10 deadline. We can always see how it goes and then drop down to Week 8 if necessary.
I just made it week 10. I don’t think it matters that much to anyone else.
