Rules Proposal V: Rookie Draft

* THIS RULE HAS PASSED *

Rule Change: Drop the number of Rookie Draft rounds from 7 to 5.

Rationale: Okay, so this one isn’t really a new idea in that we’ve already talked about changing the draft from 7 rounds to 5 rounds, but I wanted to get it all posted in the same place.

The general argument is that there isn’t enough talent to justify 7 rounds.  Also, by moving to a 5 round format, each of the draft picks would be worth more.

For instance, I personally consider picks in rounds 3 and 4 worthless because you have to pay players too much for too little production.  In fact, many players selected in rounds 2-5 went unsigned because the costs were too high. However, the thought goes, in a 5 round draft, we could set the slotted salaries in such a way that each round has good value.

Mechanism:  This is the tricky part – when do we kick off the 5 round system? For the sake of votes, let’s say that the draft moves to 5 rounds for the 2014 campaign, given that several trades have already included 2013 draft picks.  As usual, of course, this is open for discussion.
Sorry, there are no polls available at the moment.
