Week One – What Do We Know?

Well, week one is in the books (and week 2 has already started.) So, what have we learned?

Football is a violent game. There are roughly three thousand players listed as questionable this week. And several players have been lost for the season. Seeing Tyler Eifert’s dislocated elbow was pretty gross:

Gross.
Gross.

Anyway, good luck on getting some healthy guys to play this week.

The Good Teams are Still Good. The two teams that ended up in the finals last year, the Colliders and champion Pirates, managed to win games in week one. The Pirates looked admittedly stronger, but the Colliders proved that they could pull out a win even when most of their team gets injured. They’ve got some depth.

The CornChutes Were Not Messing Around. DownState survived an off-day by Brees (by his standards) and still managed to post the second highest score of all time. Most of his big contributors are former waiver wire guys. Marcot has gotten tremendous production out of cheap players, and many are certifiable studs. This team might be ascending.

The New Guy Got a Win. Jeremy Jeppsen began his Immersion career in the win column, thanks to Weldin’s troubled lineup (Cam Newton did not play.) Hopefully he will enjoy it before he joins the ranks of the Cleveland Batteries of the world.

Fransburg has Returned to Relevance. Even with off games for Rodgers and Charles, the (r)EvoLUtion managed to score a decent amount of points. They have seemingly hit the right mix of defensive players this year. Surely their rookie wideouts Watkins and Evans will improve over the course of the season.

Carlos Hyde Was the Right Pick. I don’t know about you guys, but Carlos Hyde was the only rookie I wanted. I was all set to trade up to #2 to get him, but the Hawks rightly took him first overall. It already looks like he’s eating into Gore’s workload, and he will probably just take his job soon.

Jadeveon Clowney Was the Wrong Pick. That might be a bit harsh, but he went 3rd overall and is slated to miss the next 4-6 weeks. His designation as a LB is a killer since he mostly plays like a DE. If he ever gets a position change, he’s going to be pretty dominant, I think.

JJ Watt Is Worth The Money. I gotta be honest, I don’t know if I would have shelled out $40 for Watt. But Matt did, and Watt repaid him with interest. Watt is just ridiculous.

The CBS Simulcast of TNF Games Has Ruined TNF Games. What? Why? Why do I have to listen to Phil Simms “Jeem” his way all over the place saying stupid things? I much preferred Mike Mayock and Brad Nessler to Simms and Nantz.

“These Baltimore Ravens have really come together, Jeem. I see them as one of the top teams in the division.”

Come together around what? The release of their wife beater teammate? So, Ray Rice punching a woman in the face has somehow made them bigger, faster, and stronger? Simms is an idiot.

That’s all for now, folks. Hopefully, I’ll have time to write more this season, but I’m not counting on it. Maybe you guys can step it up and give us some reading material.
