52 Fransburg Drive – After weeks of negotiations, the (r)EvoLUtion and hawks were able to hammer out the details on a trade involving players, picks, and a ton of cap space.
After getting hammered in the media (Read: emails from Hammond) about being over cap, Hawks GM Jeremy Jeppsen got just what he wanted – about $100 in cap relief by dealing away RBs Ray Rice and Darren Sproles. The relatively high cost of two picks in the Top 14 of the 2015 Immersion Draft was somewhat ameliorated by the additions of WR Marquise Lee and TE Kyle Rudolph. Though unproven, both players will start for their NFL squads and certainly make starts for the Hawks this year.
In Fransburg, fans are applauding GM Adam Franssen for making the move for the #2 pick overall. If Fransburg’s first three picks in this year’s draft can approach the productivity of Mike Evans, Sammy Watkins, and Kelvin Benjamin, concerns about the $46 cap hit (and resulting lack of FA buying power) will quickly vanish.
After the trade, Rice, Sproles, and a host of Hawks players were cut. Regardless of how the rest of the trade turns out, both teams did a nice job of clearing the 2016 books.
