WEEK 2 – Quick Picks

Last Week: 5-1

Batavia vs Bestine

Last week, Batavia put up the highest total of the week, led by the Big Ben to Antonio Brown combo, and their ridiculous WR and LB core. How ridiculous is it? Between only the QB, WR and LB positions, Batavia outscored Sweet Home. Yikes. Other positions are fairly suspect, like RB, but overall, he’s got more than enough firepower to beat anyone.

This week Bestine poses a formidable challenge. Huge down weeks from Gurley and Bryant (and by his own standards, OBJ) cost him week 1, but I expect them all to bounce back this week. I’m going to make a bold prediction and say that Eli/OBJ outscore BigBen/Brown, but its not enough.

WINNER: Batavia Colliders

Fransburg vs Sullivan Island

Fransburg also had its share of disappointment as Allen was lost for the year and players like Marshall and Fleener under-performed. When Brees throws for like 420 yards and you catch 1 pass for 6, thats not a great sign. However, he also has tremendous WR depth and solid defense and should be just fine.

Is it me, or does Sullivan look legit? He actually outscored Fransburg last week. The Benjamin trade has paid off nicely so far and DWill continues to dominate with Bell out. And I expect his WRs to, overall, put up better numbers than they did last week. Another excellent matchup. But I cant quite get myself to pick against Fransburg.

WINNER: Fransburg (r)EvoLUtion

Madtown vs Marshfield

A couple things that worry me about this matchup: Madtown gets Gronk back and there is no way in hell JJ Watt scores under 3 points again. This team was pretty solid last week and in general, I think the scores for his players should trend up. Except for Winston. I dont see him torching Arizonas defense this week.

I am ruing the day I didnt extend Brees’ contract. He makes Willie Snead look good. This is decidedly average outside the QB and RB positions, but got some nice surprises from its WR core. Of the 6 guys start worthy, 5 of them scored a TD. The issue will be getting a DT, DE and a couple LBs out there that can actually score points. I’m not ready to pick against myself this week.

WINNER: Marshfield Pirates

Cleveland vs Downstate

Its always rough when you score the 2nd highest point total and lose. I think Cleveland is going to put up a buttload of points again–however, its once again not good enough. Bold prediction: Downstate’s 4 WRs outscore Cleveland’s 4 WRs and Downstate pulls a Batavia and punks Cleveland.

WINNER: Downstate Cornchutes

Holley vs Sweet Home

Holley is much improved and is starting to put a semblance of a team together. His QB, RB, and WR cores are solid. Its looks as though a bunch of players under-performed on D and I expect that to improve a bit this week.

Sweet Home looked like a mess last week. Fitzy continues to amaze and Shepard looks like a really nice pick, but the rest of that offense was a dumpster fire. They’ve got some decent names on D, but it wont be enough.

WINNER: Holley Hawks

North Point vs Oregon

North Point benefitted heavily by the fact that whoever suits up at RB for KC seems to dominate. I dont see him doing that again and I’m just not a big fan of Lacy and Murray.

On that note, I like Oregon’s RB core this week to carry the load–I think Ingram and Foster to do much better. Wentz was a nice surprise for Oregon and I think he does just fine again against the Bears. North Point has a superior defense, but what the heck I’m already sick of writing this article, so I’m going with the upset.

WINNER: Oregon Dream Team

  1. Been too busy to even do the simplest of write up. No idea of who has scored what, but here’s some predictions for Week 3 just to get on record:

    Cleveland over Marshfield
    North Point over Sweet Home
    Holley over Oregon
    Downstate over Madtown
Bestine over Fransburg (might regret this one)
    Batavia over Sullivan Island
