Divisional Predictions – Part II

Suffering from the flu and tired of lying on the couch, FFL guru Adam Franssen gives us his take on the upcoming SCUFFLE Immersion season.  Who will win?  Who will lose?  I have no idea, but this is more entertaining than watching TV or taking a nap.  Without further ado…

#starwarsdaddyissues (aka, The NFC East)

You know who’s going to win this division?  Of course not, no one does.  Like the NFC East, any team could win it on any given year.   We’re talking about a division where three teams were 6-7 last year and North Point – the 2010 champs – was 5-8.  This division is a bloodbath waiting to happen and frankly, is my favorite to follow year in and year out.  Just look at the roster moves these teams made in the offseason and it’s clear that everyone thinks they can win it in 2013.

Division Winner:  North Point Chitons (aka Dallas Cowboys)

Like the Cowboys, this team seems to be perennially loaded and hyped to win it all.  I think they’re back.  Matt Ryan is playing like a fantasy football stud, which will keep them in games.  Moreover, the offseason trade to bring in aging veteran WRs Andre Johnson and Vincent Jackson smells suspiciously like a “win now” move.  Their defense looks stout as well, which is somewhat surprising given the mass LB exodus that took place between January and August.  The real question, to me, is if they can make the leap to champion after giving up TE Jimmy Graham.  Though he has had injury concerns in the past, Graham represented a huge positional advantage for the Chitons.

Division Runner-up:  Bestine Banthas (aka Washington Redskins)

Sorry Weldin, but Ryan definitely out-spent you this offseason, winning him the Daniel Snyder-led Redskins label.  Lavish spending on AP is only outshone by the lavish spending on players-currently-not-on-the-roster.  Actually, why do I have them ranked here?  They’ll probably finish last in the division, but I can’t shake the feeling that AP will get going again, Tony Romo will finally go on an extended run, and TY Hilton will make us all believe he’s worth a 1st rounder after all.  I’ll give them 2nd, but expect them to miss the playoffs.

Division 2nd Runner-up:  Sullivan’s Island Silvertips (aka NY Giants)

Summerville just barely missed out on winning the division last year but roared back to upset Kamino in the first round of the playoffs.  This year, I like their RB corps and the potential of the WRs.  Their defense is a major liability, though; outside of Mario Williams, things look not so hot.  Like the NFL Football Giants’s prospects, the Silvertips’ season hinges on the QB position.  If Cam Newton can get himself going, the ‘Tips will be a tough out.  If not, they’ll be lucky to hold on to 3rd.

Division 3rd Runner-up:  Kamino Bounty Hunters (aka Philadelphia Eagles)

If I’d written this article before Signing Day, the Bounty Hunters would’ve been ranked higher.  However, the perhaps ill-advised (and after waivers, fortuitous for me) cutting of Reggie Bush robbed them of depth at the RB position without improving them at the WR spot.  A team like the Colliders likely would have paid handsomely for Bush.  But, let’s make like an NFL coach and talk about the players on the roster, shall we?  This team is in great shape at QB with RGIII and have solid RB starters in Ridley and Sproles.  They also sport Jared Allen on defense and have other defenders with considerable upside.  Will it be enough to make noise in the division this year?  Probably, that’s how this division works, after all.  Unfortunately, I am forced to leave them in this position (last in the division) thanks to the continued presence of not one, but TWO NFL Fas on their roster.  For shame, Lowry, for shame.
