The Silvertips rode MVP Cam Newton to a 5-8 season last year. Still, there are some nice pieces on this team. The problem is, Weldin is missing in action. He did not add any players during Free Agency, and was a no-show to the draft (I drafted for him on the fly, to the best of my ability on short notice.) Weldin claimed that he couldn’t get the new login system to work, a problem that approximately zero other owners have encountered. There isn’t TOTAL radio silence, however, as every once in a while a cryptic message gets through to someone. Still, this is a fantasy football league, and one of the owner expectations is that you actually play fantasy football. Weldin missed the entire offseason program, and is in danger of failing to submit a week 1 lineup.
At some point we may have to pull the plug. So, you know any guys?
If a new owner were to take over this team, here’s what he’d be dealing with:
QB: Cam Newton and Kirk Cousins. That’s pretty nice, not gonna lie. Newton is cheap, too, as nobody challenged Weldin when he signed him to an RFA contract.
RB: Todd Gurley was drafted first overall after Weldin went 0-13. Gurley is a nice piece to have. His other RBs are DeAngelo Williams, who should fill in for Le’Veon Bell for three weeks, and Andre Ellington, who should be cut. Speaking of cuts, Alfred Morris is making $53.13. That’s a terrible contract. A new owner might want to ride it out, though, because Morris is in his last year and the Silvertips are under the cap. No sense in taking a $26 cap hit on next season. I also drafted Wendell Smallwood for Weldin, proving that I don’t always know what I’m doing in the draft.
WR: This position was bereft of talent, prompting me to draft Josh Doctson for Weldin (since Weldin is such a Washington homer.) They also have a bunch of white Patriots: Danny Amendola and Julian Edelman. Since I figured he didn’t have enough New England WRs, I drafted Malcolm Mitchell for him in the third round. They also have Sammy Watkins, Michael Floyd, and Braxton Miller. They should probably cut free agent Nate Washington.
TE: The only one on the roster is MyCole Pruitt, who was drafted in the 4th round last year and is doubtful for week 1. Finally, a team worse off at TE than I am.
PK: Steven Hauschka. Makes $2.20 and is signed to a 3-year deal. Why not?
DT: Nick Fairley is fairly pedestrian. You see what I did there? But hey, he makes $12.65 a year, so he’s cool. That comes out to roughly $0.75 a tackle.
DE:Cameron Heyward is good, but is holding out for a $4 raise. If an owner was present, that owner would pay the man. They also have Jason Pierre-Paul and his 7 digits. JPP makes way more than Heyward, even if you were to pay the man.
LB: The highest paid LB in this group is a rush LB, Demarcus Ware. NO! Stop doing that. Here’s why a new owner would want to completely overhaul the position: Jerry Hughes, Keenan Robinson, Lawrence Timmons, Stephen Tulloch, and Wesley Woodyard. BARF! That’s right, I threw up on this LB corps.
CB: Janoris Jenkins and Captain Munnerlyn are bigger names than fantasy contributors. They don’t cost much, though, so good on Weldin for that.
S: Landon Collins was a great draft pick in the third round if you don’t mind paying more than $1 for safeties (the league is split on this issue.) Deangelo Hall has been moved to safety because he’s old and ineffective. He costs $7.59 and should be cut immediately (the dude once scored 44 points in a game, a record that stands to this day, but those days are long gone.) Brandon Meriweather is cheap, and I drafted another Giants safety for him, just because (Darian Thompson.) I think Thompson might be a good value in the 5th round.
There are some decent aspects to this team, and if Doctson turns into a beast then they’ll have their Big 3 in Doctson, Newton, and Gurley. A talented owner, one who could log into the website, could mold this team into a winner in pretty short order, I think. So, like I said: Do you know a guy?
If we don’t find an owner, I see this team going 4-9. If someone competent comes aboard, it will be more like 6-7.

I agree – this team has some really good pieces. With a bit of work, it could make some noise.
He’ll definitely be spoiling some teams’ season around playoff time. I can’t believe nobody challenged him for Newton. Man. I thought he was crazy for taking Cam in the first round. I guess he was. Crazy Prescient.
Yeah, that is crazy about Newton. But hard to make a play when you own Brady or Brees under $30.
