MARSHFIELD–Desperate times call for desperate measures.
The Pirates coaching staff, decimated by injuries, had to get creative in their most recent 156.10-136.09 victory over the Sullivan Island Silvertips on Sunday. What’s even more amazing than the play, dubbed “Hungry Pig Right”, was that it actually worked.
In the third quarter, Marshfield lost backup-turned-starting WR Davante Adams to a concussion. On the Silvertips 1-yard line and with no other active offensive players available to come into the game, the 346-pound DT Dontari Poe lined up in the backfield, and motioned out wide. QB Drew Brees hit Poe “in stride” and he “fatted” his way into the end zone for his only points of the game. The fattest man to ever score an NFL TD, had actually scored his 2nd.
“Play your percentages,” Poe said. “It’s 100 percent. So just give it to me.”
Despite the victory, Pirates lost another star player—safety Reshad Jones—for the remaining of the year, placing Jones on the IR this morning after he sustained a shoulder injury Sunday.
