BATAVIA, IL
The Colliders struck gold in last years draft, securing a solid nucleus of starting wide receivers in Justin Jefferson, CeeDee Lamb, and Chase Claypool.
They’ve given up on their second round pick, Henry Ruggs. Ruggs was shipped to North Point in exchange for a 2022 second rounder.
The move cleared enough cap space for the Colliders to meet the holdout demands of consistent wideout Robert Woods, who wanted a $14 raise after finishing in the top-10 last year. Woods is expected to another step forward thanks to the upgrade at the quarterback position from Goff to Stafford.
“Ruggs could very well develop into an elite wide receiver,” said Hammond, “and we wish the best for him. Unfortunately, wide receiver is not a position we are currently lacking at, so I just don’t think he’d see the field this year. Now he has a chance to be a starter.”
Robert Woods notably was not extended when his holdout demands were met. If he’s able to produce another solid season, he could demand a king’s ransom in free agency next year.
“We’re not saying we don’t want him here long term,” said Hammond. “But as you well know, this is a business. And Robert gave us the business by holding out. Not very nice. But all will be forgiven if he helps us get that elusive fourth championship.”
The Colliders, of course, fell 1.56 points short of the trophy last year in the highest scoring Immersion Bowl ever.
