Week 16 Preview
Sorry about missing last week. Tis a busy time of year! I’d rather have 2 weeks off before Christmas than two weeks off after. I’ve barely done any shopping and it’s too late for BS Amazon orders. I had to get a bunch of things graded and complete report cards. BOO. Tomorrow I have an all-day in-service about some new program we’re adopting. Imagine being the group who has to come in on the last day before winter break and tell a bunch of checked-out teachers about their dumb program. Gonna be painful all around.
Immersion Bowl Bracket
#3 Marshfield (14-1) @ #2 Batavia (9-5)
It’s pretty hilarious that the Colliders got the bye. While on the bye they scored a respectable 171 points even as two safeties and their tight end immediately injured themselves and joined injured reserve (10-strong!)
Meanwhile the Pirates kept doing Pirates things, scoring over 211 points to emasculate the Hawks.
If the Colliders stand a chance in this one, then Minnesota needs to go nuclear like they did in week 14 to secure the first round bye. They draw the Seahawks, a team I have no opinion of. Their defense is almost completely made up of reserve players now, so defeating the Pirates will be a tall order.
Saquon Barkley of the Pirates draws the Commanders this week. Last time that happened, Barkley scored 25 points. And he’s just one of many stars on a strong Pirates squad. Look for Marshfield to push for an incredible 6th title.
#4 Linn County (11-4) @ #1 Fransburg (11-3)
This is quite a tasty matchup. Like the Colliders, the (r)EvoLUtion spent their bye week scoring around 170 points. Unlike the Colliders, that’s a low-end score for them. Linn County came correct with 178 points last week. Jared Goff and the rest of the Lions put up tons of points. If I’m Fransburg, I’m low-key concerned that the Lions get the Bears, who have given up on life. On the other hand, the starters might be sitting by halftime.
Fransburg has been on a rampage all year, though, with Lamar Jackson and an unstoppable RB/WR corps. James Cook and Kyren Williams have scored 14 touchdowns each. Ja’Marr Chase is like, “that’s pretty neat guys, but I have over 100 catches and 15 TDs already.”
I like Fransburg to keep the dream alive here, and to return to the Immersion Bowl for the first time since our inaugural 2010 season.
Most Futile Franchise Bracket
Dingle (1-14) @ Madtown (3-11)
Can the Marauders defeat the Blow-Ins one more time? They didn’t submit a lineup last week so it’s not a given. The Dingle Blow-Ins should run away with the Most Futile Franchise award, but you can hardly blame them. Should they pull it off, the turnaround will be all the sweeter.
I think Madtown does submit a lineup this week because I’ll be sending an email soon directing people to this article. So let’s give them a win and a merciful end to this painful season.
North Point (4-11) @ Bestine (7-7)
It’s obscene that the Banthas got a bye in the MFF tournament. Their 159 points last week would have defeated any of the teams that played in the MFF last week. Still, this week should mark the end of their troubles, and I confidently predict a win over the moribund Chitons.
In Closing
If I’m not mistaken, we have a lot of teacher-types in this league. Given that, you are probably already on break (you college folks) or you’re about to start break (HS, MS, Elem folks). I hope you all have an awesome holiday break and you manage to get everything done that needs to get done. Best wishes to you and your family and may all your dreams come true.
If you have a job that does not afford you as much time off, I hope you still get relax at some point. You’ve earned it.
Enjoy the (playoff) games everyone!

Thank you for continuing to do this! I so enjoy reading them every week.
Good luck to all teams remaining!
Unfortunately, I have to put some work time in next week. At least the weather is super mild this year.
