Marshfield Offseason, Trades—Part 1

MARSHFIELD—What Brady wants, Brady gets.

With 2018’s heartbreaking finish behind them (losing in the semi-finals to Madtown by less than a point, only to outscore both finals participants the following week), pundits figured Marshfield would again have a busy offseason. But no one expected the moves to happen so soon.

Things came to a head early as the team began voluntary workouts sans Tom Brady, when it became clear that he would again have to compete with Drew Brees for the starting QB role. It was no secret that Brady was not happy about his role of being on the bench last season, especially during the aforementioned semi-final game, and he was not shy to take his feelings to social media shortly after:

With the state of the team and their varying loyalties in jeopardy, Marshfield moved quickly to trade Brady, shipping him and Pirate mainstay TE Jordan Reed to Sullivan’s Island for the 1.09 pick.

“Look, we think Sam [Darnold] is coming along nicely in his development,” Pirate owner Jason Enright was heard saying after Tuesday’s workout. “We have a decision to make regarding extending Drew or not, but we are comfortable enough with Sam to move forward with him as our sole backup and potential starter in 2020.”

Enright seemed similarly happy with TE Engram. As he is the only TE left on the roster, he seems destined for a big year as the starter. And with Kirk Cousins unable to be franchised by the Silvertips, Brady looks to have got what he wants. Again.
