New RFA Rule Implementation

Restricted free agency will be changing fundamentally. Instead of bidding on RFAs, owners who draft players will now have a fourth year option – they can pick up the tab on a fourth year for a salary increase of 25% over year 3.

Additionally, we have amended the rules to say that a player can only be franchise tagged once per team (instead of twice.)

We still have to work out some kinks for implementation, however. Please vote for what you think works best.

When should we implement the one-time franchise tag rule?

  • 2021. If you planned on tagging a guy both in 2019 and 2020 then you can still do that. (80%, 8 Votes)
  • Immediately. If you tagged a guy this year, you can't tag him again next year. (20%, 2 Votes)

When should we implement 4th year option?

  • Immediately. Guys who would have been RFAs next year will just have 4th year options. (89%, 8 Votes)
  • With the upcoming draft class. We'll continue RFA as we have done in the past until 2022, when this year's class becomes the first to have the 4th year option. (11%, 1 Votes)
