What’s Next?

Hello everyone.  I hope that you enjoyed the Immersion season this year.  I know I did. CHAMPIONSHIP!  Anyway, in the Immersion, there is no offseason.  So I just want to give you some information about the offseason in the coming weeks.

First of all, I have ordered the championship trophy.  It should be delivered soon.  I will post pictures of it on this site when it arrives.

Secondly, I have been fielding some questions about what we can do with our rosters at this point.  Right now you are allowed to trade players with other teams.  You are also allowed to cut players.  You are not able to add players to your team (our first opportunity for that will be during the free agent auction.)

When you cut a player now, the cap penalty is applied to the upcoming 2012 season.  This will hold true until the start of the new league year, which will likely be sometime in May again.  If you cut a player after the new league year, then the cap hit will be applied to the 2013 season.

It may seem counter-intuitive, but if you wanted to clear cap space for this upcoming season, then you would want to make the cuts before the league year begins.  For example, Patrick Willis is making $26 right now.  If I cut him, I’d be taking a $13 cap hit on the upcoming season, but essentially I’d be netting $13 of cap space.  Also, the players’ new (increased salaries) will go into effect at the start of the new league year, and cutting them after that would be a bigger cap hit.

For now, unless you want to trade or cut a player, we are in a holding pattern.  This might be a good time to discuss possible rule changes, while we still have the season relatively fresh in mind.  I’ve created this forum in which to do so (and also to consolidate all league communication) so that we’re not bouncing from website to website.  This website will allow us to post our proposals, and it will also allow us to comment back and forth on them and keep the thread of discussion going.  Once we feel like we’re ready to vote on it, I can post a poll.

Sometime in mid-February, the myfantasyleague site will migrate us to our 2012 site.

The rationale behind using this Immersion Blog, however, is that it will be a one-stop shopping center for us to post articles and videos.  I know that Matt G. and Lowry have posted videos before, but in different places. I posted my videos elsewhere too.  I have posted some tutorials about how to post videos to this site.

Another reason this might be better is that all of our articles will preserved and archived in a logical way.  As it stands now, we have two different league websites through myfantasyleague, because they give you a new one every year.  So if you wanted to remember what people were writing in 2010, you have to go back to that site and find it, which people are unlikely to do.  With this setup, you can click on a category heading or put in a search term and have all of the Immersion’s glorious history at your fingertips.

So, this can be pretty cool, but only if people participate.  I hope that you will.  I know I can count on some of you already (I’m looking at you guys in the Dan Marino’s Wrist Band Division…also Enright.)
